Samarium-cobalt (SmCo) pot magnets offer the unique combination of high magnetic force and high operating temperature. These SmCo pot magnets have a screw socket into which you can screw hooks, eyelets, etc. We also carry identical hook magnets as well as eyelet.
The internal threaded stud pot magnet is also known as a female threaded stud pot magnet. They consist of a smco magnetic mild steel cup containing a magnet (usually a disc magnet) with a SmCo magnetic mild steel stud / boss / bush mounting at the back of the pot magnet into which a threaded hole has been made.
Pot Magnets with Internal Thread – These pot magnets have a metric internal thread and can be fastened with objects with an external thread. We also carry these magnets with rubber coating. The magnets are embedded in a steel pot. The steel pot increases the adhesive force of the magnet on direct contact with a thick iron surface.
Composition and construction of samarium-cobalt pot magnets
These strong pot magnets are made of an alloy of samarium and cobalt. The magnet force at room temperature is 5x higher than that of ferrite pot magnets. With the exception of neoflux pot magnets, samarium cobalt pot magnets are the strongest that MPCO has in its product range. Internal Thread SmCo Cup Magnets
The application temperature of samarium cobalt pot magnets is up to 200 °C. When heated to this temperature the magnet loses 15 to 20% of its magnetic strength. This is not permanent; the strength is restored when the magnet temperature returns to the normal ambient temperature.
Installation of SmCo pot magnets
The steel pot does not provide any magnetic shielding. Therefore these pot magnets may not be built into steel components without taking special measures. The distance between the steel component and the samarium cobalt pot magnet must be 1.5 to 6 mm, depending on the size of the pot magnet. MPCO is happy to provide advice, no strings attached.
