Neodymium Magnets often offer improved performance over other magnets, depending on the application. Neodymium magnets (NdFeB magnets), when used in permanent magnet motors (PM motors) for example, can give reduced motor losses, higher motor efficiencies, a reduction in CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, reduced energy costs (by reduced energy usage), smaller motor designs, higher torque densities and improved overall performance.
Neodymium Magnets, because they have the highest Br and BHmax of any magnetic material, give the highest magnetic performance at ambient temperature of any magnetic material. Neodymium Magnets (NdFeB magnets) give the maximum performance from nimum magnet volume. Neodymium Magnets can give the strongest magnetic fields, the highest pull forces, the highest torques from any magnet (size for size) at ambient temperatures.
NdFeB magnets can be used at temperatures up to a maximum of 220/230 °C with correct magnet grade selection. As a rough guide – below 150 °C NdFeB magnets are generally more powerful than SmCo magnets; above 180 °C NdFeB magnets are generally less powerful than SmCo magnets.
